Thank you

I want to thank each and every one of the 1,778 voters of DuPage County's 4th district (even those that considered me) for the privilege of your support in February's 2010 primary election.  It is a great honor knowing so many stood by me and my Independent Democratic County Board run to serve in the 4th district.  It is an honor, I hold highly and will never forget.

I want to thank all the people, friends and family that worked hard, spending their time and energy helping me with my campaign, again many thanks for your efforts and support.

I also want recognize and thank all the people I met canvassing the 4th district from the social worker, retired businessman, grouchy neo-con, Lombard government worker and the wife of a retired judge, for the richest rewards of any campaign or public office, listening to and working hard for the people and communities of DuPage County.

Again many thanks

Tom Grimston

Early in 2009 Com Ed's contractor Asplundh chopped the tops off thousands of trees along the trails and on/along private property in DuPage County. Click on this photo to get more info. on efforts to protect the trees and trails.

Tom Grimston has been a supporter of the trails
and volunteer in helping keep them clean and safe.
He also continues to speak out for both the
IL Prairie Path and Great Western Trail.

Here is a letter from Tom Grimston in response to statements by
Commonwealth Edison that defends why the have chopped the tops
off of trees instead of trimming them. The letter was published recently
in the newspapers urging Commonwealth Edison and the elected officials
in DuPage County to work together to protect these taxpayer owned trails
and their natural beauty.

Nature loving ComEd

Nature loving front man, Calvin Butler, Senior V.P., Com Ed, the abysmal
stakeholder of the trees they have chopped and hacked along the DuPage
Co. trails says “ComEd appreciates the value of (the) wooded communities,
the aesthetics (and)…pleasure trees provide”, as what, fire wood?!

In a letter from Mr. Butler recently published in the newspapers he has pointed
out, storms and tree damage are a major cause of electrical outage. They are
discussing a proposal with DuPage Co. to replace the trees along the trails with
some native species. This a noble idea and really worthy of Arbor Day recognition,
but frankly nothing more then a distraction until Com Ed can prove it really does
care for the trees by trimming them in a healthy manner as required by the IL
Commerce Commission.

Com Ed, fixing the trees along the trails in DuPage County would be great, but
it starts with you and your golden opportunity to again lead by example with a
qualitative and quantitative restoration and preservation of all the trees.

Statement by Tom Grimston made to the Village Board of the Village of Lisle in response to their plans to approve spending $500,000 towards the development of the Navistar heavy industrial diesel engine testing facility along with the storage of 162,000 gallons of fuel.

I am a Wheaton resident and active volunteer environmentalist on Wheaton’s Environmental Improvement Commission I want to make a brief statement about the ill- conceived Navistar economic redevelopment project. Relocating Navistar from Warrenville, to establish a diesel engine development facility at the old Lucent property, in Lisle. With 2, above ground tanks holding 162,000 gallons of diesel fuel, and burning 20,000 gallons 24/7 a week this 335,000sf engine testing plant will convert the quite family ambiance of the area into an air and noise pollution industrial complex threatening our environment, health and safety. The plan will demolish hundreds of trees, take away 3 acres of our forest preserves, will require numerous zoning variances and departures from building standards for buildings that size, require special delivery permits for diesel fuel in residential areas. And of course there is the disastrous potential of an explosion destroying 1000’s acres, of Wheaton and Lisle with long term residual damage to the environment and communities for miles in every direction.

Notwithstanding the danger of a possible explosion and the residual damage to The Giant Step school for children with autism is all too real. As a potential neighbor to the Navistar pollution factory, should the deal go through, they say they must and will close their doors.

Many scientific studies have proven children with autism are especially impacted by their surroundings, from loud noises to fumes in the air. The departure of the Giant Steps school once so welcomed to the Village of Lisle, would be a sad reckoning for such a great cause.

I believe this issue is as much about Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Lombard and Warrenville as it is about Lisle. And that this plan must not go through.

Redevelopment develops nothing when it costs us the health and safety of our communities and environment, especially the lives of the most vulnerable.

Tom GRIMSTON speaks out about the $19 Million missing from
the Water Commission of DuPage County

Tom Grimston Wheaton resident since 1966 is speaking out about the Water
Commission missing $19 Million dollars.

“19 million dollars are missing from the DuPage Water Commission. That is a lot
of money especially it since it is taxpayer money. I would like an investigation and
independent audit to find our money.”

Tom Grimston is a candidate for the DuPage County Board serving District 4.
Tom Grimston is an experienced and dedicated public servant – with over 11 years
work experience working for DuPage County. He has worked hard serving the
taxpayers of DuPage County.
And as a volunteer member of the City of Wheaton’s
Environmental Improvement Commission for over 4 years he has worked to clean
streams, parks and lead environmental improvement projects.

Tom Grimston concludes “If elected as your county board member I would work to
take control and hopefully eliminate the dozens of taxing bodies beyond direct
tax payer control.”

Tom GRIMSTON's presentation to the board of the
Wheaton Park District opposing the proposed
NAVISTAR heavy industrial diesel engine testing
complex planned for the old Lucent – Alcatel property
in Lisle, IL

I am Tom Grimston Wheaton resident since 1966 and an active member
of Wheaton’s Environmental Improvement Commission. As a Wheaton
resident and active environmentalist I want to make a brief statement
about the ill- conceived Navistar economic redevelopment project. Being
the relocating of Navistar from Warrenville to establish a diesel engine testing
facility at the old Lucent property at Naperville and Warrenville Roads in Lisle.
With above ground tanks holding 162,000 gallons of fuel and the testing of dozens
of diesel engines 24/7 and every day a year this 335,000sf engine testing plant
I believe will convert the quite family ambiance of the area into an air and noise
pollution industrial complex. This complex is threatening to our environment,
health and safety. The plan will demolish hundreds of trees, take away 3 acres
of our forest preserves only if they receive numerous zoning variances and departures
from building standards for buildings that size. They will also need to receive special
delivery permits for diesel fuel in residential areas. And of course the disastrous
potential of an explosion of 162,000 gallons of fuel taking out part of Wheaton
is also an ongoing concern.

The new Giant Step school for the autistic children next to this site, should the
deal go through, says it would close their doors. Many scientific studies indicate
children with autism are especially impacted by their surroundings, from loud
noises to fumes in the air. This would be a sad reckoning for such a good cause.

I believe this issue is as much about Wheaton as it is about Lisle and as the Wheaton
Park District is in partnership with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County for
mutual open space it should have a bearing on those issues that effects those
partnerships.

So I am requesting if possible an official statement, opinion or proclamation
from the Wheaton Park District about this project..

Homelessness and Hunger in DuPage

I am Tom Grimston, Wheaton resident since 1966. And candidate running for DuPage County Board to serve District 4.
When a struggling economy hits home it can mean the worst of consequences, with a vanishing living wage and job loss pulling your feet from under you. Rising poverty and homelessness can be not far behind

And DuPage County is not immune, in one of the wealthiest counties in the U.S., just ask those among DuPage County’s rising poor and homeless.

In a lifetime of work from blue collar to white - I understand the fear of losing everything. And nearly have.

As your County Board Member I will work hard, committed to the homeless and the working poor to address their struggles, determined to help those to help themselves.

·         I will fight to increase the Human Services Grant Fund offered by the county for non-profits helping the homeless and poor rebuild their lives.
·         Make sure communities do not turn their backs on zoning affordable housing that is so important to families coming - back home.
·         And improve inter-governmental communications with non-profit organizations, emphasizing clearer more accountable team work.
·         Work to preserve public transit so important for those working without a car.

As a member of the DuPage County Board I will work to make public service about the people not about the money.

 Tom Grimston

District 4 includes the communities of Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Lisle, Lombard, Winfield and Wheaton.
